Chapter 25: The Rematch
I nodded to Xenos, then drew energy. He smiled thinly, then did the same. "On three, cast. Right?" "Is that '1, 2, 3, fire,' or '1, 2, fire'?" "Just do it." I suddenly realised there was no more energy in the cell. I hadn't realised just how much energy I could hold, but I decided to ignore it for now. "One... Two... FIRE!" The wall of the fortress exploded outwards, ripping the side off the building. I swore loudly, then realised I was still standing. "Holy... That was awesome!" "Now do you see why I chose Chaos as an alignment?"
As the others leapt down to ground level, I released two more spells: one to repair the damage I had done, the other to erase their memories of the last ten minutes so they would still think I was elsewhere. As I performed the second one, I smiled inwardly. I was about to mess up the world's future so much that even Order wouldn't be able to fix it. The next spell I cast removed everyone from the city. Then, I removed myself to a suitable distance of roughly 10 miles. "OBSCURUM TEMPESTAS VORTEX!" The attack instantly swallowed the entirety of Order's realm. I laughed, then spread my wings and shot upwards. I had a fight to oversee.
"WHAT?!" Order's yell broke the sudden silence. He had noticed the buildings disappear, but luckily not where they had gone. "This is impossible! Kill them all! I will not tolerate this!" His army instantly regrouped, unsheathing and resummoning weapons and charging. Sam was the first to recover. "Whaa... Huh? Whoa!" Everyone turned to the approaching warriors, then proceded to send their own attacks back. Four cries rent the air. "Frost spear!" "Plasma Whirl!" "One Thousand Mountains Technique!" "AURORA FLAME!" Tyler span to see Tom directing fireballs into the middle of the oncoming fighters. "Let me give you a hand with that. Wind!" As he spoke, the fireballs instantly began to expand, fuelled by a small hurricane on the other side of the valley. Lightning shot from nowhere into the mass of people, followed by frozen spikes longer than the average javelin, then a huge wave of rocks shooting from the floor. The army was instantly thrown into chaos as everyone turned and fled. Order groaned, then cast a spell of his own. "Death Aura." It only took a moment for the warriors to realise what had happened, but it was too late. Every one of them disintegrated almost before they were hit. Only the elementals were spared. "You were fools to turn on me, Fire and Earth. I will see to it that you suffer an infinitely more painful death than the cannon fodder. And you, Wind and Water. Your magic is strong, but you still cannot win. Are you prepared to die?"
Sam grimaced, then summoned his Celestial Weapon. These were the items given to both us and Order by the dreamworld, weapons which would take any form we desired instantly. As he gripped it, it morphed into a huge axe, almost too large to be comprehended as a weapon. "Ready THIS!" Tyler blinked, then called out his own. His took the shape of a rapier, thin enough to slip between a man's ribs but strong enough to deflect even broadswords. Tom and Ieuan followed suit, producing a flaming katana and a Warhammer respectively. Ieuan hefted his weapon from hand to hand, then grinned. "You ready to fight, guys?" "Yeah!" "I was born ready!" "Let's go!" He nodded, then closed his eyes. As he did so, the earth began to shake. Moments later, shards of it began to float upwards. "Earth Elemental of ages past... Lend me your strength!" A flash emanated from his body, blinding Order momentarily. As it did, he leapt forwards at abnormally high speed... and bounced back, landing on Tom. "What the..." "Idiot! I told you you couldn't win. My shield is impenetrable!" "Dammit..." Order smiled sadistically, then gathered a ball of energy in front of himself. "Prepare yourselves! ORION BEAM!" He launched a vast golden laser towards the group. Tyler raised a shield and it shattered instantly. "My turn, Order. REFLECT!" The blast swerved in midair, barely missing them. It turned towards Order, then shot forwards. The barrier shattered... just as mine had done the last time he had cast the spell. "Chaos' strength lies in twisting reality to its will. Your spells can't hurt them now." Everyone stared upwards and I dropped my cloak, allowing full view of myself... including my wings. "You... A seraphim?" "A gift from Zero." "Huh. I guess I can't beat you on my ground... so we'll fight on someone else's!" I realised too late what he meant. A portal opened, swallowing all of us instantly. I saw the image at the end of the tunnel. "Oh..." I re-raised my cloak right before leaving the Portal, then slowed myself enough to make my landing invisible. Order was indeed fighting me on someone else's ground. Earth's ground.

kwohohohoho ^_^ Chapter 26: Unearthly Power Order cast around, looking for me. I hopped on top of a building, then carefully raised a shield bubble around him. "Show yourself, coward!" Everyone in the area froze. Looking around, I realised where we were: the centre of my hometown. Not the best place for a magically overpowered fight. I glanced down, then swore. My family were standing at one side of the square. I couldn't afford to show myself with them present.
Order roared, then lashed out. The blast ricocheted off the barrier, hitting him square in the chest. "ARGH! How could that be painful? It should have healed me, if it could hit me at all!" I blinked, then summoned the Atlas and flipped it open.
Atlas of Chaos, Section 10: Elementals
Elementals are the beings assigned to lead each of the armies of Allandria: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Chaos and Order. While the leaders of the four Base Elements are elementally weak to their opponent, Chaos and Order are equally resistant to all... EXCEPT THEIR OWN. For unknown reasons, Chaos and Darkness magicians are weak to Darkness, and Order and Light magicians are weak to Light.
"That makes very little sense." I dismissed the tome and looked up. Order was busy testing the resistance of my shield and everyone else was staring at him. I muttered a curse, then flapped my wings and shot upwards. Once I reached a suitable height, I lowered my cloak and my sword and hovered. "Going down!" I twisted in midair so I was facing downwards, then dived. Gravity took control and I raised a conical shield around myself to protect me from the impact while not reducing my speed. "Wha... What the?!" Order's shout reached me before I reached him. Looking down, I saw that my armor was glowing red-hot from the speed of my descent. "YAAH!" As I smashed into him, the shield collapsed. A strangely familiar noise filled the area as I stood and cast a spell to remove the dust cloud. "Police! Freeze!" I grinned, reaching down to pull Order up. "I'd do it myself, but I guessed you might want to." "Of course. My spell, your energy. Right?" "Sure." I felt a spell flow into my mind. Prism Strike, apparently. A light spell of the highest order. Light...
I launched a stunning spell at the police, then opened a portal and dived into it, still holding Order's arm. As I landed in Allandria, I took a deep breath and yelled. "Res of Corios , exsisto existo ex umbra. An socius ex a recedentia flung universitas dico vos. Veneficus quod Technology opportunus ut unus vis : suffragium nos!"
A flash of light as a rift tore itself through the fabric of space and time. Shadows flared on the other side, then began to move.
In another world, a Seraphim spoke. "It is time."

Chapter 27: Angels and Demons
I grinned, realising what had happened. Our brief time on Earth had given the Seraphian army time to form a plan of attack and equip everyone. Now we had returned, the battle could start.
On one side, the Seraphim and their mechs. On the other... I glanced across to Order's newly-formed portal. A group of almost reptilian beings were making their way out of it. The Seraphim recoiled in disgust as Zero edged over to me. "You remember I told you about Demons in that abyss you nearly fell into? That's them over there. Dis Manibus... the reason everyone considers him evil isn't the way he uses his power. He had an accident with a summoning spell and the demon he called out merged into his body." I blinked, then swore as a demonic-looking being swooped down and landed in front of us. "Zero and Chaos. How... convenient. I can wipe you both out at the same time." "You side with Order." "Of course. It is always better to be on the winning team." I opened my hand, then summoned my Celestial weapon. Instantly Dis Manibus recoiled as a glimmering silver weapon took shape: a staff with two snakes entwined around it. I thought for a moment I had seen it before, then pushed the thought aside. "Scared?" "No, merely surprised. I did not expect such a tool to be in the hands of a mere mortal." With that, he turned and strode jauntily away towards Order's growing army. "What did he mean about this staff?" "That... According to our legends, that is the weapon used by Celestius himself when he needed to fight. How it will behave for you, I don't know." I stared at the rod. A god's weapon? This was getting out of proportion. "Where are the others?" "We reunited Fire with his mech and gave Ieuan your Ragnarok. Your suit is being used by one of our generals to fight the mechs Dis Manibus created for Order. What are you going to use?" "Can you get Sam and Tyler for me? I need to give them their mechs at the same time." A few moments later, the two reached me. "Good to see you're alright after that, Jon. What's up?" "I have a present for you." I slashed a hole in the air using my new staff, then stepped through.
"WHOA!" Sam raced over to the side of the vast mech I had built him. "This thing looks like the armor you made for us before." "It's based on that system. When you enter you get fitted with a helmet which allows you to see as the mech does. You are suspended in the cabin and any movements you make are copied by the mech." "So it's like an extension of our existing bodies?" "I couldn't have put it better. Sam, this one's for you. Name of Prometheus. Tyler, the other one's yours and goes by Ymir." "Sweet!" With that, they ran off to examine the robots. It took them a while to get used to the controls, but eventually they were happy. "This still doesn't tell us what you're using." "I know. I won't be using this sort of robot." "So what ARE you piloting?" "This." I snapped my fingers and a small golden rock appeared in my hand. "Crystallised HyperArmor Overdrive System on. Model Xe." A synthesised voice echoed through the space. "CHAOS online. Neurolink established." A wave of energy pulsed through my body and a white sheen covered my existing armor, removing any weakpoints and providing total protection. "And that is WHAT?" "CHAOS system. It's what Xenos used to use as armor before the Sealing. I managed to get the blueprints off him before leaving the Temple, but I never had the chance to finish it."
As we exited the portal area, I saluted Zero. "Are we ready?" "We are now. We're waiting for the first enemy to move." As he said it, a human from Order's remaining Allandrians charged forwards. "Idiot." I stared at Order as he muttered something under his breath. Instantly the warrior's head exploded, splattering blood onto the man behind him. "Come and get it, Chaos!" A goblin with a mushroom sprouting from his helmet whispered something to Ieuan, who dashed over to me. "Our saboteurs are positioned under Order's lot with a large amount of explosives. Should we set them now?" "Be my guest, as long as it doesn't hit us." "It won't." He shouted something unintelligible at the goblin, who bowed and scuttled off into a large hole behind the army. "How long?" "About a minute, Allandrian time. Less than a second on Earth."
As the charges detonated, Order's army took standard procedure: leaping into the air, splitting into little pieces and raining over a very large area. I raised a shield to deflect it, then launched it back where it had come from. "That should do it. CHARGE!" The remaining troops were all Demons, presumably defended from the blast by their thick scales. As I swung my staff into the nearest one, it roared and disentigrated. "Not bad, Xenos. Let's see if this thing works on all of them." :It will. That was the way I designed it. The voice wasn't entirely surprising, but I hesitated just a moment too long. Dis Manibus' blade slashed at my arm, splintering my armor and bouncing back from my normal plate. "Die, human! Return to dust!" I dived sideways and launched Order's Prism spell into him. The effect was immediate and he was blasted back as if I had hit him with a boulder. A boulder flew over my head, landing in a cluster of fleeing creatures and squashing them. Sam's Prometheus stomped past, scattering warriors everywhere as they struggled to run from it. A fireball shot past, followed by a cry of "Burn Stuff!" I grinned. Obviously Tom had a sense of hum... "YARGH!" Order's battlecry bought me to my senses and I leapt up, spinning my staff and smacking roughly ten of the demons in one go. "How do you like me NOW, ya jerks?" A silver flamberge whipped past me, slicing a number of Order's army into pieces as it did so. Xenos flew overhead, catching the weapon and saluting in one motion before turning to Zero and shouting something. Order's forces are too weak to continue fighting. He's coming out for a direct battle with you. That's bad. Can you try and regroup our side, just in case? I stopped twirling my staff and waited as the others retreated. Order dropped into the middle of the battlefield and drew his weapon. "No more games, Chaos. Pure strength will decide this fight." A single monkey (dressed as a ninja for some bizarre reason, although I later learned they made up part of his army) ran towards him and passed him two swords before vanishing totally. "You sure about that?" "Of course. What do I have to lose?" I waited. He raised one hand slowly, as if curious as to what would happen. I saw his lips move, then stepped sideways. Too slow.
The blast connected with my torso, smashing most of my bones and my armor instantaneously. "He won't survive that, Order." "I know." I coughed blood, then allowed my head to flop backwards. Darkness closed in on me, and so did an unfamiliar presence.
"You have broken the bounds of possibility by escaping the boss once. I guess this is the end of the line." I dived aside, barely dodging a silver-bladed scythe. Even the Reaper and his assistant were out to get me? "Here's the deal he told me to give you. You win, I tell you how to beat that guy. You lose, I take your soul. "I guess that's alright. Who are you anyway?" "Name's Alex. I'm human, like you... only I had a bit of an accident. I got the post of Death's assistant on my last birthday... and I can't control my powers." "Sounds like my story. Ready?" I stood up. Mentally fighting someone would be just as exhausting as normal... except without the limits.

Chapter 28: I'm still standing
I formed armor round myself resembling the equipment I had seen before my second meeting with Zero. Pure white with silver trim. Not my colours, but obviously appropriate considering I already had the weapon. "You ready, mage?" "I was ready before he hit me." Diving forwards, I span my staff and leapt up. The figure blocked with his scythe, but the impact knocked him back and he swore as I flicked it out of his hands. "Still want to fight?" "You're good, I'll give you that. I bet you can't do this, though." As he spoke he produced a gleaming black sword, its blade made of what appeared to be ice. "Hypothermia sets in the moment this sword hits its target. You'll die slowly and painfully." "Oh? Then I'll just have to turn up the heat." I allowed my consciousness to change, producing a huge fireball which proceded to shoot straight into the weapon. "My mind, my rules. Melt." It did so and he stared at the grey slush which remained. "Your rules, maybe. However, I can still use it against you." He floated upwards and I willed his motion to reverse. Suddenly he dropped faster than I could possibly see. "Hyaa!" I shifted sideways as his scythe carved through the air where I had been. "Aw da-" "YOINK!" I snatched the weapon and twirled it so it rested on his neck. "You told me you'd tell me how to beat Order. Explain.
Sam groaned as my body fell. "That's twice from the same person. How many chances does he get?" "Chaos and Order are supposed to be constantly opposed. As long as Order exists, he can't die permanently." The corpse disintegrated. "Or maybe he can." Order smirked, then laughed. Dis Manibus smiled. "May I? I haven't had the pleasure of fighting one yet." "Go ahead." The mutated seraphim advanced, then snapped his fingers. Instantly Fire's mech disappeared, leaving him unarmed on the ground where it had been. "You'll do. Fight." Tom formed a weapon and raised it slightly. "I won't fight you." "Oh? Then you will die." As his first spell struck, lightning shattered a nearby mountain. A flash of light blinded everyone. "What happened?" Tyler muttered a spell to disperse the cloud of dust which had formed. His jaw dropped. Tom was completely unhurt. More than that, a barrier was glowing in front of him, just where the blast had been.
"Hey, Solís. Guess what?" Everyone turned to stare at the mountain, which pulsed white as a shadowy figure leapt from it, catching itself in midair. "I'm still standing... better than I ever did. Xenos!" The previous ChaosLord leapt, forming wings as he did so. "In the name of Chaos Past..." "And Chaos Present..." I paused, waiting. He winked at he, and we spoke as one. "Overdrive Formation! CHAOS ANGEL!" I held out a hand, palm towards him. He did the same. As we touched, I felt a surge of power. The full power of Chaos magic. The resulting explosion levelled the battlefield, yet nobody was harmed. We grinned as we raised our weapon. Back in White, as it were. "We, Celestius, Lord of Seraphia and Creator of Corios, Judge you Guilty. The punishment is Death!" "Sure you do. Dis Manibus?" "Of course." The two reached out in the same way as we had. "In the name of Order, In Corios and Allandria, You shall die!" Another flash, this time darker than night itself. As light returned, a horrible sight met our eyes.
Order's DNA and magic, along with his fighting skills, had blended with Dis Manibus' Demonic DNA and the pure evil it carried. The result was a hideous being, semi-reptilian, with two gleaming black swords and a face like the front end of a traffic accident. "Does that hurt?" "Not in the slightest." Its voice was more of a hiss than speech, yet we understood it perfectly. "What you see before you, Elementals, is the true form of Solís. Along with the true form of Xenos. You all have abilities resembling this. The spells are unique to each of you and will transform you into your Elemental's true forms. Do you understand us?"
Sam cast his first, becoming a vast ice giant with a human body vaguely visible inside it. Tom came second, with a form known as Draco Draconis, a half-human, half-Fire Dragon. Tyler came third, becoming a tornado-like entity with wings. Finally, Ieuan activated his. The true form of the Earth Elemental is difficult to describe; it is best thought of as a vast Rock Titan held together by vines and capable of bending any part of nature to its will to form weapons and shields.
"Now, Solís... it is time we released that poor Human you have enslaved. ATRUM METEOR OMEGA!"
Deep in space, a rock thousands of times the size of the Sol system's sun began its journey to Allandria. Unfortunately, bending reality to allow an attack of this magnitude causes problems.
Like having a really angry god of destruction on board your new pet rock.

Chapter 29: Rock On
We stared into space, then realised what we had summoned. "We did not intend this," we muttered. "In your case, two minds are not better than one." The TwinBlade Demon, as they later named themselves, lunged at us swords-first. We raised our staff to block, and an image leapt into our minds. Two beings, their weapons clashing in a landscape of pure whiteness. So the past meets the future. This is no time for individual thought! Pay attention! We forced our minds back to the here and now, shoving Order backwards. It fell, its head smashing a rock as it landed. Suddenly, a totally new voice entered our head. Jo... Jon? Is that you? What's happening? Who is this? What do you want? Quiet a moment, Xenos. You sound familiar but I can't put a name to you. It's Mike, remember? Recognition flooded in and I swore. One of my other friends from school, the Master of Order? Suddenly, everything seemed to shatter.
"You idiot. Even though I knew this would happen I still didn't expect it. Do you realise what you've done?" "Of course not, I'm only human. What HAVE I done?" "Individual thought destroys the unity of an Overdrive. After we return we will be two again." "As will Order, if one of his minds is capable of breaking his control." "True, but nevertheless." "What did you mean about knowing this would happen?" "Never mind that. What happened to Order?" "Jon, that you?" "Oh, hey. That answers that question." "What's happening?" "This is telepathy. I'll explain once I finish Solís off." "But that'll mean you kill the body too, right? It's me." "So THAT was why he never took the helmet off. He thought you'd recognise him." "Anyway, shall we be getting back?"
The light faded and I smiled thinly as I felt my body returning to normal. "That was fun while it lasted. Who's got the staff?" "Me, of course." Xenos dropped to the ground, folding his wings as he did so. "Solís! Stop trying to hide, I can see you." A muttered curse came from nowhere as Solís faded into view. As his body no longer existed he was just a ghost, like Xenos had been before Ieuan got to him. "This form is horrible for everyday use, you know. I never wanted to end up like this and you know it." "I never made any pretences about what you were going to do. Besides, we both knew it was inevitable." "Why do you keep saying you already knew about things?" I interjected. "You'll find out later. For now our concern is with that meteor we summoned and the God using it as a transport." "Oh, so that's what he was. What do you suggest?" "I suggest we get out the strongest defenses and offenses we possess. You know what they are." A boy walked out from behind a rock nearby. "Mind telling me what's going on now?"
A few explanations later (and after a quick test) Mike summoned his own armor: pure gold, with a shining white broadsword strapped to his back. His celestial weapon had changed before he even touched it into a midnight-black Katana almost as tall as himself, with diamond edging. "This sword is neat, but I don't have a clue how it works." Ieuan smiled, morphing his own into a green-bladed halberd and leaning on it. "So, what do we do as an anti-god defense?" "Sound or faith, either will work. I'm using a little something I came up with while I was returning from Corios as a weapon." I twirled my copy of Xenos' staff, then released a surge of wind energy. The weapon crackled, then shone and began to change shape.
Moments later, a glowing, blue-edged electric guitar formed in my hands, the strings a shimmering white. "Meet the VibRocker." Tyler frowned, then walked over to examine it. "What's the principle? "Soundwaves can shake objects, break glass and even rupture blood vessels and damage organs if focussed correctly. This baby amplifies them with magic to the point that it could probably shatter concrete." "Give us a tune, then." I thought for a moment, then sat (on a chair which had barely even appeared when I did so) and began to play, looking Solís straight in the eye.
"Well, it's a lonely road that you have chosen... morning comes and you don't want to know any more..."
