no, we're going to die when they set off the LHC and it makes our very own portable black hole. except it won't be portable and we won't be around to celebrate, if it does.

The LHC's black holes, if it even creates those, will be so small that they will in no way be able to devour the Earth. Most likely they would dissipate within seconds.
If by some way the LHC could create a blackhole that would be able to devour the Earth and NOT collapse, it would take, what, was it 50 months for it to fully eat Earth and then start to expand into the rest of the solar system?

The LHC is going to make Higgs bosons. Micro black holes out of the LHC are bunk.
Be more worried about strangelets.

I'm no nuclear physicist >_> are we talking about Strange Quarks?

I'm no expert either, but isn't the worry with strangelets the thing that they could form something that is not around in our universe, and potentially frigging KILL US ALL?

I'm no expert either, or I'd still be in college, but the idea is that a Strangelet will strike the nucleus of an atom, and by various properties render the nucleus of the atom into another strangelet attached to the first, and the process simply continues until the strangelet runs out of nuclei to convert into more strange matter/eats the Earth and all things on it - solid, liquid, gas - until only cold dead vacuum stops it.
