This is something I've tried to write because I want to take a break from Seraphia and its deep entwinings. So, enjoy.
Disconcerted: A Story About Life
Chapter One: Ethan
I looked at my watch, admiring the golden glow it cast. The sun was shining brightly today, and the sky was cloudless. I leaned back, and smiled. Nothing could go wrong today...or could it?
"James! Wake up!"
It was my friend Derek. He was astride his new BMX bike, his brown hair glistening with beads of sweat.
"Derek! Enjoying that new bike, I see."
"Yeah, I am! Get yours out and we'll go riding around the 'hood."
" 'Kay. Wait a min."
I went to the garage, walking slowly and taking in the sunlight. It felt so good, being out here on a wonderful June day like this. School was out here in Burnaby, and my friends and I had nothing to do. So naturally, like all boys, we rode our bikes around the neighbourhood.
I opened the garage door, and took out my bike. Just as I was wheeling it out, a boy that I never saw before appeared on the back lane. He wore a blue T-shirt, black jean shorts, and six wristbands on his tanned arm. He looked very athletic, and about thirteen or fourteen. Ignoring him, I pulled the bike out to the front.
"What took you so long?" inquired Derek.
"There was this guy around the back. He looked kinda curious."
"Whatever. Let's go! The guys are waiting for us."
We rode down Sixth, and stopped in front of the skatepark. Our friends, or the "Gang", as we called ourselves, were waiting there for us. There were ten of us in total, and we loved sports.
