Phlox is fun to fight. He presents a wonderful challenge, because the only thing that seems to truly hurt him is magic. Specials do not hurt him (although some do work. You can freeze him with Ice Katana, but it won't hurt him), and pets are pretty useless in trying to damage him. So, here is my ultimate guide to beating Phlox (ultimate guide might be stretching it, but this is UAQ).
Phlox
Level: 95
Melee: 30
Ranged: 25
Magic: 35
Attributes
Strength: 75
Dexterity: 100
Intellect: 150
Endurance: 50
Charisma: 50
Luck: 50
Defense Modifiers
Fire: 110%
Water: -100%
Wind: 90
Ice: 50%
Earth: 90%
Energy: 140%
Light: 110%
Darkness: 90%
Let me reiterate that Phlox cannot be hurt by normal or special attacks. Only magic spells will work against him.
Suggested Equipment
Armor: Golden Plate, Nightmare Plate, Little Me, Some form of Paladin Armor, Some form of Wizard Robes
Shields: Spell Blocker, Invisible Shield, Logos Shield
Weapons: Mana Scepter
Items: Seven Leaf Clover, Intellect Scroll
Spells: Fireball Z, Purity Portal, Star Forge, Heal Wounds
Pets: Fairy Godmother
Guests: Guardian Angel, Poelala
Potions: As many as possible. I never enter battle with less than thirty mana and health potions.

There are a couple different ways of beating Phlox. The way I used is more apparent when you look at my equipment. Some people prefer to be completely defensive, or completely offensive. I prefer to do both.
First things first, I went to the crossroads and made sure to max out my potions as much as possible. I also made sure to charge up my Golden Holy Armor, so as to have the Lay Hands ability ready if I needed it. Resurrection is also nice in case you need it, but obviously this will be charged if you charge Lay Hands. After I had done this, it was off to the battle chamber.
My advice for you is to go through the battle chamber with the best defensive armor you have, and Fairy Godmother. It took a little longer to go through with my Little Me Form, but when I got to Phlox, I had full health and mana. If you don't quite have full potions, don't sweat it, as you will get a couple here and there throughout the battle chamber. Now, before you go into battle, make sure if you don't have Fairy Godmother out already, that you get her out. I would hope that common sense would dictate throughout the battle what you should do defensively. Never take off your strongest armor unless you have to use Lay Hands or Mana Morph. There is never any reason you should do this. Always have your shield on. For items, I chose Seven Leaf Clover, as I feel that five points in intelligence will not make as much as a difference as fifty in luck.
Offensively, there is a reason I have fireball Z listed as the best spell. If you have Poelala with you, every spell attack increases by 0.5 each turn. Fire is one of Phlox's best weaknesses, and Fireball Z does 8 attacks for a decent amount of mana (65). So, at first it won't be the most damage, but as the turns go on, you will eventually see the damage start to add up. In long term thinking, it is the best combo you can have, short of freezing him and using Fireball Z. I didn't dare sit around with my Ice Katana and wait for a freeze, as he was hitting me for over one hundred damage on some turns.
You will definitely need to replenish your mana a couple times, so the Wizard Robes are a valuable asset. I did use Lay Hands, and it was also a valuable asset. I never let my health get below 250. I felt this was a good safe number, and it worked pretty well for me.
In the end, it was I who came out victorious. Phlox is definitely not impossible to beat, if you are the right level, have the right equipment, and have the patience. Being a Guardian is a big help, too! Good luck to everyone!
