I got the idea from the MQ forums... Some people make backstories for their characters in games. You guys want to try some?
examples (my MQ characters, I got nothing for my AQ and DF chars):
Name: Xenos, Lord of Chaos
Age: 15
Status: Star Captain through his own license
Current Mech: modified Chaos Military-issue Hammerhead Super, equipped with Shining Electron Sniper, Alien Star Ray, Mint-Zooka (front shoulder), Super Magma Cannon and The Kringler head.
Favorite food: anything other than dried fruit
Race: Allandrian (apparently human, but his irises are purple and he can use most known weaponry without any form of instruction)
Theme song: Chaos Angel Zone Act 3 from Sonic Advance 3
Quote: "What, you want to take on a ChaosLord? Well, I'm not paying for the repairs."
Bio: Xenos was an expert Mechpilot on his home planet of Allandria, a world outside the Solaris system. He heard of GEARS from a Star Captain boasting of his exploits in a tavern in his hometown and asked if the traveller would take him there to see how tough the students were. Unfortunately he refused, so Xenos modified his mech for space travel and set off - not realising the energy would run out halfway there with no way of recharging. Less unfortunately, the GEARS shuttle happened on the mech shortly afterwards and, after finding some ID and other documents on the unconscious occupant decided to take him aboard. The travel systems have since been disabled to prevent a repeat occurence. Most of his time is spent keeping down the Werewolf gangs of Soluna, though he manages to find time to take classes when they begin (and is, amazingly, almost never late, despite his rivalry with the Giant Spider which attacks him every time he lands at the university). He looks up to Warlic due to his wisdom and mech designs (Volt Thorn) and hopes that one day he will be able to really impress the Headmaster with a design of his own.
Xenos is a perfectionist when it comes to mechs, and always tries to fit them with the best possible parts. He can spend ages trying to find the ideal weapons to fill a slot and his efforts usually pay off, since very few of his would-be enemies wield the power to stop him. Before leaving Allandria he was the head of the Army of Chaos, though almost nobody outside his family knew of it and he had a hard time keeping it secret (especially since his leaving coincided with the appointment of a temporary leader). He doesn't mind what parts he uses, as long as they get the job done (and has recently finished designing a new model of mech known as the ChaosLord for his personal use), though if given the option he would rather play Sniper than berserker. He also enjoys reading about the supernatural and spends a lot of time researching, tracking down and capturing or destroying Werewolf and Ghost mechs, and is expanding his mech collection to make this hobby easier. He wields vast reserves of Mana and has a natural affinity for Mana-powered weapons, which he can use more effectively than any other pilot to the point that he has been known to push his customised Volt Thorn far beyond its limits by firing its weapons almost before they finish cooling down, allowing him to get in extra hits for the advantage the thinly-armored mech needs. He also has a natural ability to guess what an opponent will do next, usually countering missed attacks with large but inaccurate blasts of energy which would otherwise be useless.
His Star Captain's License covers his whole family and was obtained a few months after he arrived in Soluna after achieving a phenomenally high score in an exam, sent by his parents as a reward. He captains the ship Heart of Chaos.
Name: Tooti
Age: 12
Status: Star Captain through Xenos' license
Current Mech: Newbatron V1.0
Favorite food: sugar, and lots of it.
Race: Allandrian (apparently human, but her irises are orange and she can pilot nearly anything without instruction)
Theme song: Star Girl by Mcfly
Quote: "You... you scratched the paint... I'M GONNA KILL YOU, YOU BIG NASTY ALIEN!"
Bio: Tooti is Xenos's sister, and decided to apply for GEARS after her brother left. She should have been too young, but thanks to a little "persuasion" from Xenos, Warlic agreed to let her join. She has only recently arrived at Soluna, but luckily for Xenos has not had a lot of combat training.
Tooti always looked up to Xenos, despite not wishing to join the army. She goes for looks over power and refuses to use anything she doesn't consider stylish. Luckily for her, her piloting skills let her dodge most attacks even in her somewhat basic mech, and the glaringly bright colours usually result in the enemy being unable to look straight at her and forced to rely on their (nearly non-existent) AI targeting. She is a skilled medic and can draw on limited Mana reserves to heal those around her, a useful skill when travelling on one of Worsch's flights. However, she chose to neglect this skill rather than training it, so she can only heal one person at once, usually starting with herself. She captains the ship Star Corona.
Solís, Master of Order
Age: 16
Status: Star Captain through his own license and position
Current Mech: customised Kurosawa which he calls Raikage
Favorite food: anything which hasn't been near a Chaos warrior
Race: Allandrian (apparently human, but his irises are clear gold and he is an expert at spotting and exploiting weaknesses in enemies or defenses)
Theme song: Your Eyes Open by Keane
Quote: "Chaos shall be eliminated. Those who stand in the way shall be executed. Now... Whose side are you on?"
Bio:
Solís is Xenos' nemesis from Allandria, the supreme commander of the opposing army of Order. The two hold a long-standing emnity, and though Chaos is superior in Mech combat Order is unsurpassed on foot. His preferred weapon is a modified Double Saber with a pressure-sensitive switch (no pressure, off. pressure, on.) whose blades extend to full length immediately after it is switched on, allowing him to pass an opponent's guard by flicking it off and then impaling them as he switches it on. This can be dangerous to those allied to him as well as his enemies, as the weapon is totally silent until swung and there is no warning of its activation. He uses the same weapon on his Mech's front arm, though unlike Chaos he likes to plan for any offense he may meet and his Kurosawa is fitted with shields against ballistic and explosive weapons, making it easiest to hit him with mech-sized energy swords like his own. He is currently trying to locate Xenos in Soluna, though Xenos does not yet know of his presence. He has a natural affinity to laser-based and energy-based weapons and can use them with little or no training, though this won't help him if anyone else arrives to support Chaos. His greatest weakness is his inability to give up in battle, since as an Elemental he is near-immortal and would rather lose due to a superior enemy than due to ejecting.
He captains the ship End of Oblivion, though its crew is composed of Light Elementals.
Name: Myst, Regent of Eternal Flame
Age: 16
Status: Star Captain through rank
Current Mech: HammerHead Super modified for use by the Army of Fire.
Favorite food: steak, well-done to the point of incineration
Race: Allandrian (apparently human, but his irises are scarlet and he can supercharge nearly any machine on contact)
Theme song: Volcano - Aegis Volcano BGM, Megaman Zero 3
Quote: "He who laughs last hasn't noticed I'm standing behind him."
Bio: Myst is the leader of the Army of Fire, originally allied to Order but defected to Chaos after realising he was fighting a losing battle. He prefers to charge into battle with no though for safety and as such creates huge profits for repair companies. He uses the Hammerhead because, in his words, "They ain't got another mech which can handle a Lava Cannon and not half-melt." His innate power to instantly boost the power and agility of any mech makes him a deadly foe in combat, and he has demonstrated several times that he can do the same to hand-held weapons (and also to his enemies, since overcharging a reactor can cause it to go into meltdown and finish it without a fight) if necessary.
other notes: Myst very rarely goes into combat alone, and is usually covered by snipers with Fire-enchanted bullets which simply dissipate if one misfires and hits him. Occasionally he brings AI-controlled mechs as bodyguards, though these usually just deflect laser bolts so he can concentrate on getting his aim right.
