When I click on the guides nothing happens other than the background changing to white. Is this section working or up? I just started with AQ and I'm trying to figure out how to become a fighter.

To become a fighter enter the inn in battleon and above yulgards head there is an arrow click on that arrow and you will go upstairs.
You will see a man click on him and do the fighter class quests. Become a level 5 fighter to become a knight. Become a level 10 knight to get a special mission from the king himself (guardian only)
And if you get to level 5knight and mage then you can become a paladin by clicking on the travel map and clicking on the button that says paladin order.
So you can see becoming a fighter will help you towards two very good uber classes.

The very first post states that the links don't work on the guides section from the main page, rather than the forums. His post has reminded me of what else I need to fix on the main page.
