here we go:
Chapter 7: Winds of fate
I walked to the door and opened it. To my surprise it was not Elbern but another being, this one apparently human.
"Sir, there's a fight going on down by the main gate. Your friend is already there helping but he says he needs your help."
I grimaced.
"Alright. Which way is it?"
One very long walk later, I arrived on top of a building near the place where the fight was happening. I grinned, seeing a geyser shoot out of the ground with a grey-armored figure on top of it. He caught my glance, then muttered something inaudible. I cursed as the geyser dissipated and the figure remained hanging in the air, then suddenly realised how much trouble I was in. The figure had somehow conjured a lightning bolt and thrown it at me. There should have been no time to dodge.
With a speed that surprised both me and the soldiers watching, I twirled aside and flung out my hand. The bolt glanced off the air in front of me as if there was suddenly some type of shield there. The hovering being gaped, then fell to the floor. I blinked, then looked down to see Sam had frozen him into a block of ice. He waved and I allowed myself to float down from the building.
"What happened?"
"We're not sure. He appeared out of nowhere and demanded to see you, then attacked us when we refused to let him in."
"Huh. I'd guess he's not Order, his armor would be gold. And we already know Fire and Earth are either missing or inactive right now."
"Which makes him Wind and explains why he could hover like that."
I smiled. At least we had another ally now.
"Lock him in one of the guest rooms at the fortress. I'll come and see him later."
When we returned to my room, we found Elbern waiting there. He seemed worried about something, but I decided not to ask what.
"Ah, Sir. How went the battle?"
"Not too badly. Apparently Wind wanted to see me and got refused."
He smiled broadly.
"Wind was always infamous for changing his mood quickly. He should be alright in about... I believe you call it an hour? Now then, to business. I believe you want to know more about your enemies, don't you?"
"How did you know that?"
"Mind-reading is not a skill exclusive to magicians, you know. I'll have to teach you. Anyway, that Book on your bed contains all the things Xenos learnt while he was Lord of Chaos. You should look through it."
He walked to the door and was about to leave, then turned round again.
"Oh, yes! I forgot to tell you. A messenger arrived earlier from Order. He... ah... he wants to meet you at Lake Kero. Something to do with a dream, apparently."
"Oh? I'll go straight there, then."
"Take Wind and Water with you. You may need them."
As Sam and I left the room, I frowned.
"Who do you think Wind is?"
"How am I supposed to know? I didn't recognise him, I was too busy trying to freeze him."
The room he had been locked in was one of the more secure ones, with about ten different locks and a magical seal on the door. The guard bowed to me as I asked him to open it, then did so. I was rather surprised to see that Wind was holding what appeared to be a Longbow with a gem at each end of it, and no bowstring. Obviously he favoured ranged combat over melee.
"You are the new Wind Lord?"
He stood and faced me.
"Yup. And you must be Chaos and Water. Sorry about the fight earlier, I wasn't thinking about what I was doing."
"That's alright. Mind taking your helmet off so I can see who you are?"
He removed the helm and I grinned.
"That makes three people I know. Welcome to the team."
The person in front of me was only a few months older than me: I knew this because he was a friend of mine and went to my school.
"Tyler. You're the last person I expected to see."
I pulled my own helmet off and he swore.
"You're Chaos? Nice going. Pity we're equal with our enemies now."
"What? You mean there's an Earth Lord now?"
"Yeah. He arrived while I was leaving."
I groaned inwardly. That meant that if our meeting with Order came to a fight we didn't have enough power to win.
"Hmf. I suppose we'll have to teach you on the run."
"Oooh no. Where are we going?"
"Lake Kero. We've got a meeting with Order."
I focussed, then released some energy. Instantly we were outside the gate, Tyler with a giant Golden Eagle next to him and Sam with a huge, floating Swordfish.
"You two have transport, but what am I supposed to do?"
"Well, Chaos is famous for summoning. Maybe you can call something?"
I smiled. It was worth a try.
"Sdlrowrehten ethfo tsaeba. Come forth, and be my steed."
A glowing symbol appeared in the ground, then shone brightly.
Seven colossal, Rhinoceros-like (but standing on their back legs like Humans do, and with one huge horn and one tiny one) beasts stepped out of it. Every one of them looked angry. And they were all looking at me.
"Oops."
