NEWS!: The guide has gone through it's next big update.
Here's a little something that I whipped up, it's a bit like a load of guides on here all sewn together roughly. It contains just about everything I know about AQ.
It's level scaled, too.
Lvl 1-9
You've just started, and for the next few days you'll probably get addicted. Until you find out that you need to become a Guardian (member) to get on there 100% of the time. But forget about that for now.
Firstly you'll need to get used to the game and learn what it's all about. You start with the Steel Plate and sword, (located in the 'armor' and 'weapons' sections in your inventory) and 100 gold. You also have potions (located in the inventory section while in battle) to restore health/mana (magic points, to cast spells) if you're low. Try a few battles by clicking Battle Monsters below Yulgar's Inn. Then when you've got a feel for the game you should go to Yulgar's Inn and pick up some weapons in his shop. There are quite a few different items comprised of:
Weapons (these are comprised into three categories, melee, ranged and magic, choose wisely which one suits you best)
(Btw. Ranged weapons attack with their 'special' every turn, so you can't use class abilities)
Armors (regular and class)
Sheilds (increase your elemental resistances/defences)
Pets (various different elements and effects)
Miscellanious (various effects, cost MP to use)
Spells (Cost lots of mp to use, but are much more powerful and versatile then weapons)
Each shop will have it's own types of stuff.
Aria's has pets, and a few ranged weaps/armors.
Yulgar's has weapons, sheilds, warrior equipment.
Warlic's has all your spells.
the Gaurdian Tower has all types of equipment, but you need to be a Gaurdian to buy them. (Suprise)
Different weapons have different elements, and you can find out what element weapon you should equip against a monster by scrolling over an image of it's head on the HUD (heads up display), which will bring up the 'battle card', which will have the names of the elements and a percentage next to them, along with other info. The higher the percentage, the more the element will hit against them. Here's a few things that I reccomend to you, suggested by StoickC:
Weapons
Earth: Keep with the Steel Blade for now, it's quite close to the power of the weapons on your level.
Fire: Fire Blade. (Yulgar's Inn) Cheap and effective, not to mention cool looking.
Water: Water Drop Mace (Yulgar's) Again, hard-hitting and it swings around most menacingly.
Wind: Whip (Aria's pet shop) Snap! Owies.
Ice: Ice Shard. (Yulgar's) Huge and damaging.
Energy: Energy Flail. (Yulgar's) I killed a Braken at level 10 with one. *shrug*
Light: Flair Flail. (Yulgar's) It's a flail. With light element.
Dark: Skull Sword. (Yulgar's) The most accurate weapon you'll get for a while.
That's the basic weaponry.
Once you're fully equipped you should focus on levelling. The experience meter is represented by the yellow bar below your mana bar. As you level up, more quests, weapons and abilities will be unlocked. By level 90 you should have pretty much cracked the game.
Level 10-29
Now you'll start to become more powerful and will find tougher monsters, so it's important to go to various shops (most NPCs have one) and make sure you have the best weapons and armor (also get a pet from one of them) available for your level.
Also some of the weapons that you buy will now have random 'special attacks' that *sometimes* do bonus damage...
Plus if you go to the Isle D'Oriens, when you leave Vince will offer you 'The Plungeriser' which is very powerful but will leave you without an Earth weapon. Your choice.
Also another efficient way of increasing in power is to click on Artix (the guy with the big golden axe, brown hair and buffed shoulder plates) on the home screen and selecting the 'train' option where you can increase our stat points (available to see on your 'battle card') in exchange for gold, making your charachter stronger. Here is a list of all the stats:
Strength (STR): Increases the damage you do with melee weapons.
Intellect (INT): Increases your maximum mana points and increases the damage done with spells/magic weapons.
Endurance (END): Increases your max health points.
Charisma (CHA): Increases the overall performance of your pet, especially attack rate.
Luck (LUK): Increases everything by an infestistimal amount.
Dexterity (DEX): Increases your accuracy, dodging ability and ranged weapon damage.
And make sure that when your adding them you arrange them in to a build. A build is a set of stats that makes it best for a certain type of player, ie.:
Warrior: Uses melee weapons and pets primarily, not big on spells. Should have high STR, END and CHA.
Mage: Uses magic weapons/spells primarily. Not big on either melee or ranged weaps. Should have high INT, END, and DEX.
Rogue: Likes ranged weaps and pets. Should have high DEX, CHA, END, and LUK.
Also there are 'tanker' or annihalator' versions of these builds, which are just version which max out on 2/3 of the stats and nothing else, enabling them to focus their attack/life power. If you want to change some stats then go to the Un-Trainer in the Guardian Tower teleporter or if you are an Adventurer then die and click the hourglass below Death, then keep on going into the purple swirly portals until you find a headstone marked 'Sir Pwnsalot' and click it.
Not only that, you can also start training in some of the lesser classes, locatable in various places, just look around and on the travel map (a button on the bottom left of the main screen). Classes are armors which you can take quests for to get the new abilities when wearing them. Go to the UAQ homepage and search the 'guides' section to learn more on these. Here is a list of the available classes (for you level)
Fighter (once on lvl 5 in this class you can train as a Knight)
Mage (once on lvl 5 on this class you can train as a Wizard)
Rogue (soon to be a beastmaster block, when released)
Also, get interested in rare events and quests (usually available through the 'go to the event' button above the travel map button, othewise the homepage will tell you where to go) such as wars, they herald big rewards and limited rare items. Check out th Isle D' Oriens by clicking the rip in the sky on the right of the guardian tower...
Level 30-59
Now you are getting quite a high level, and should start trying some of the more advanced quests and taking active part in wars. Again make sure you aren't falling behind on equipment and stats, and arrange your build. Also start pooling cash, you're gonna need it. Also the better classes, Paladin, Ninja and Necromancer will be available, and these are the ultimate classes.
Level 60-89
Start farming (pooling gold) for the 'ub3r sets', the Nightmare Set, The Reign Set or the Shadow set. The best way to do this is to use the 'Carnax War' quest (located in Isle D'Oriens ((rip in the sky))), go to Falerein, or talk to sailor Boon, (Lolosia, go right) then retrieve the plant from Gibbet's pub (go back left then open the door) and doing the quest he offers you. Another good way of farming is the two Alnaphar quests themselves. You're gonna need the sets, as the monsters are HARD for this section of the game. Again refresh your char's stuff and stats, as always.
Level 90+
Do whatever you want, you're rich, you've got the best stuff, you can brag! Just wait for updates and become the ultimate :3, plus when you hit lvl 100 you will get into the awesome 'Legends' page.
BUT: There are especially tough 'ub3r monsters' such as Kal-Al, King Of Trolls and Sneak On A Plain. Unless you like a challenge (ie. a monster hitting 780 on you per turn >.>)
Stuff not covered
Abreviations:
XP: Experience.
MP: Mana poimts.
HP: Health points.
CHA: Charisma.
INT: Intelligence.
STR: Strength.
END: Endurance.
LUK: Luck.
DEX: Dexterity.
How to set your pets to 'stay back': To stop your pets from attacking without having to miss your turn selecting another one, click 'options' on your HUD and click where it says 'Pet: Attack in battle'.
How to change quality: Go to options on your HUD and click where it says 'Quality: High' (There are 3 different qualities to choose from, I always use low)
How to change screen size: When on the homepage, above the server access button will be a resolution picker. Choose.
HUD: Heads-up display. This is where it tells you your hp, mp and xp.
Z-Tokens: An alternative form of currency that you can buy or get from battles, you can use it by talking to Velancia (main screen, woman with purple hair) and asknig her for the Z-Token shop.
Changing your battle options skin: On the bottom left of your battle options is a black bar linking it to your HUD. Click the black bar.
Freezing: An affect that occurs against your enemies in various circumstances, it sets the monster's fire defenses to 200% and they lose 1 turn. Cannot happen to a monster that has under 100% ice defense.
Subraces: Vampires/Werewolves. Sort of like primitive classes, go to Darkovia and visit one of the vampire/werewolf lairs. Also every so often a war between them will spring up, make sure you're there to see it...
Clans: There are are now 8 (le gasp) different elemental clans that you can join and fight for. Travel East on the Travel Map and go to 'Paxia Clans' and click one of the bases and talk to the clan leaders. Also click on 'explore Paxia' below to quest for Mogga Idols. These become slowly rarer and are soon worth a buttload of gold...
Weapon Specials: Random attacks that go off sometimes, whenever you click 'attack' with certain weapons.
Monster Fighting Guide
There are hundreds of monsters to fight in AQ. And you can kill and loot the lot of 'em. Here's a rough guide to how to do it.
Monster Level: (displayed at the top of the 'battle card') You should be able to kill monsters about 10-20 levels higher than you.
Experience/Gold: (below the level on the Battle Card) Shows how much gold/exp you'll get from defeating the monster.
Elemental Resistances: (right on the BC ((battle card))) This shows how much damage an element will do against said monster. The higher the percentage, the more damage the element will do.
Defenses: (displayed right of exp/gold on the BC) this shows how well a monster will dodge a type of weapon. The higher it is the easier it will dodge it.
Stats: (Left on the BC) Exactly the same as yours, except they don't have an active effect on the monster, so a monster with 200 END could easily have 500 hp.
Description: (bottom of the BC) this tells you a bit about the monster, and can provide handy hints to it's defeat.
That's it for the moment, but I'm gonna add away at this for a while...I don't expect this to get stickied or anything, I was just bored ._.
~PM me if you want something added~
