I'd suggest any books by Margaret Atwood, and books like Ninety Eighty-Four are a must read.

Try the Redwall books by Brain Jacques. He has about twenty of the books out. All the books have a different story and you can read out of order and still know whats going on. If you do read in the order *coughmecough* it provides a little more depth of what is happening. I am currently on the eleventh. The Chosen by Chiam Potok was a kind of good book about two jewish boys that we had to read for school. Also try To Kill a Mockingbird( also for school) Edit: List of his books. I am reading Marlfox Nothing ventured, nothing gained when it comes to books.
